THESIS PROJECT
Adapting the City as a Playscape Alongside Children:
Moving with Improvisational Play in Design Practice
Through Play Culture, children are informally reimagining the functions and meaning of their environment. Children are acting as informal designers within their capacity for their play.
I explore the design of infrastructure which can support the child’s capacity to reimagine space and effect it, celebrating their participation within the public realm.
I build from the dwelling perspective. This puts emphasis on how design can emerge in a dialogue with place and people, through involved activity and specific relational contexts.
Children’s Play Culture and particular capabilities are approached as a point of interest that can lead design development. Improvisational play is considred a method for design practice, with focus on the act of making as a means for collaborative communication.
